Head of King Taharqa Granite 35 cm
Statue of King Taharqa, younger brother of Shabatka, wearing the Kushite cap crown. The features are idealized to conform to Egyptian canons, contrary to his other statues.
Taharqa was the penultimate king of the 25th Dynasty. He was forced to flee Egypt in 667 BC and to return to Napata his capital in the Sudan when the Assyrian army from Asia invaded Egypt. His kingdom, however, survived in the South for another millennium.
His stela in the temple of Kawa records his achievements.
690-664 BC.
